AI Position Statement

Manchester Speculative Fiction doesn’t allow AI-generated work or critiques.

Manchester Speculative Fiction believe in the value of human creativity. We oppose AI-generated creative writing and will not tolerate the use of AI in our group.

We do not allow AI-generated submissions

Submitted pieces must be wholly your own. We want to read and critique words YOU wrote, good or bad. In the same way we would not tolerate plagiarism, we don’t tolerate AI-generated stories.

If you don’t want to write your own work, then this group isn’t the right place for you.

We do not allow AI-generated critiques

Critiques, like submissions, should be wholly your own work. We want to hear YOUR opinions on other people’s work. Our members spend their time and effort to critique your pieces, and we expect you to provide them with the same courtesy. It’s also completely unacceptable to feed other people’s work into an AI without permission.

If you yourself don’t want to offer your own opinion in your critiques, then this group isn’t the right place for you.

The do allow peripheral use of AI

We accept some minor uses of AI, such as spelling and grammar assistance and producing summaries and recaps of previous submissions, as long as it doesn’t replace your authentic thoughts and voice.

However, you must disclose any peripheral use of AI.
